Ashford Homes wins prestigious national award for The Hawthorns development

We are thrilled to announce that Ashford Homes has been named the National Winner of the LABC Best Medium Volume New Housing Development for our recently completed project, The Hawthorns in Great Somerford.
The award was presented during the LABC Grand Finals 2024, held on Friday 24th January 2025, at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel in London. This annual event celebrates excellence across the construction industry, shining a spotlight on outstanding projects and the talented individuals behind them.
Following our win at the regional awards last summer, we were honoured to compete against winners from 12 regions across the UK. Taking home the national trophy is an incredible achievement and reflects our commitment to delivering quality homes that exemplify innovation, sustainability, and exceptional craftsmanship.
About the LABC Building Excellence Awards
The LABC Building Excellence Awards highlight the vital role of public sector building control teams in ensuring construction projects meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and sustainability. A panel of expert judges evaluates each project, celebrating the teamwork, problem-solving, and innovative approaches that contribute to the success of developments across the UK.
The judges had high praise for The Hawthorns, stating:
New Homes in Wiltshire
“Set in the village of Great Somerford, near the south bank of the River Avon, The Hawthorns is a set of nine refined homes, ranging from three to four bedrooms. Containing a 5m ecology buffer zone, the site of the project presented several challenges, whereby teams had to adapt, using ‘just in time’ methods of delivery to help the project succeed. The Hawthorns demonstrates excellence through strong teamwork and by prioritising sustainability and safety.
The public service building control team at Wiltshire Council demonstrated effective collaboration with the site team, characterised by proactive communication and problem solving. Prior to commencing work, the site and building control teams held a productive pre-commencement meeting, establishing a solid foundation for cooperation. Throughout The Hawthorns project, the site team ensured building control were up to date on the latest site progress and upcoming works through regular correspondence – clear communication played an instrumental role in the success.”
Stuart Morgan, Managing Director of Ashford Homes, expressed his pride in the team:
“I am delighted that our Great Somerford new homes development has been named the National Winner of the LABC Best Medium Volume New Housing Development. This award reflects the outstanding workmanship and building excellence demonstrated by our construction team. A special thanks to Paul Burns and Lee Dutton for their exceptional leadership on site, ensuring every aspect of the project ran smoothly and delivered a truly exemplary development.”
