This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our professional team in an award-winning, people-focused company. The successful candidate will have at least five years’ experience in speculative residential development and external contracting.

The Role

The role will be diverse and require working across all current sites and a future portfolio of interesting projects including barn conversions, high spec residential developments, S106 schemes and high-end contracting opportunities.

Skills and abilities will include:

• Strong contracting experience negotiating and administering JCT contracts
• Strong commercial imperative
• Quantity surveying
• Estimating
• Valuation management
• Change monitoring
• Thorough understanding of construction specifications, bill of quantities and drawings
• Understanding of Building Regulations & structural warranty standards
• Ability to assess and manage risk and maximise opportunity
• Working with wider team to finalise scope of works and procure sub-contractor packages
• Technical knowledge of all aspects of traditional masonry construction
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to mentor
• Excellent organisation and time management skills
• General computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Project and Bluebeam
• Eye for detail and quality in all aspects of the role.

Duties will include:

• To liaise with the Directors and take responsibility on all budgetary and contractual matters
• Ensure optimum commercial return is achieved for each project
• To represent and serve the best interests of the company and to encourage repeat business
• Preparing construction budgets for approval
• Monthly construction budget reporting and reconciliation
• Coordinating with the Purchasing Manager, continually monitoring budgets
• Coordinating with the internal construction team on budgetary requirements
• Liaising with sub-contractors for tender, pricing and budgets
• Reviewing technical drawings and ensuring alignment with budgets.
• Preparing monthly valuations for S106 housing and external contracting projects
• Maintain control of sub-contractors’ accounts, minimise the cost of any variations and agree final accounts.
• Negotiating monthly valuations from external contractors
• Overseeing sub-contractor contracts
• Operationally managing 7-9 projects at any one time
• Adherence to company systems and protocols
• Assist with reviewing design information and provide opportunities for value engineering.
